Our History
BuildZoom was founded in 2012 with a simple goal: help homeowners find contractors they could trust for high-stakes remodeling projects. Backed by Formation 8, Y Combinator, and Founders Fund, the company grew into one of the largest contractor marketplaces in the country, matching property owners with vetted professionals for projects ranging from kitchen remodels to full home renovations
To match the right contractor to the right project, BuildZoom built direct connections into hundreds of contractor license boards and sourced building permits across the United States, creating one of the most comprehensive views of construction activity in the country.
In late 2025, the company separated into two distinct businesses: BuildZoom Marketplace andBuildZoom Data. Block Renovation acquired the BuildZoom Marketplace, combining BuildZoom's contractor network with Block's AI-driven renovation platform to create one of the largest renovation and construction platforms on the market, serving property owners in all 50 states.
