Gryd Product Updates: Q3 lookback and sneak peek into what’s coming in Q4
Article
This past quarter, BuildZoom Data became Gryd. Alongside a new name and visual brand identity, we introduced enhanced features in Gryd Explorer and new plans and pricing to make getting started, and staying up to date with fresh permit data, easier than ever. That includes a free plan that lets you search any address in our interactive map view and access two property reports every month. For those looking to build lists of multiple properties and contractors in their area, we’ve shipped more granular filters so you can zero in on specific criteria, and added natural language search so you can describe what you’re looking for and let Explorer surface the most relevant results.
Alongside ongoing improvements to Explorer, we recently revamped the Gryd API with several enhancements, with more updates planned for Q4.. These include self-service keys, usage tracking and a new developer hub, so you can bring permit data into your own workflows without waiting on manual setup. Here is a look back at what changed and how to put it to work, plus a first look at what’s coming next.
New brand. New website. Same source of truth for construction intelligence.
Building on more than a decade of experience with construction and contractor data, we’re proud to announce that BuildZoom Data is now Gryd.
Today, our database brings together 400M+ building permits, 6.5M+ contractor profiles and 25+ years of history across more than 2,500 jurisdictions, and it is updated daily. It is one single source of truth, delivered through the Gryd API, Bulk Data or the Gryd Explorer platform. To learn more, visit grydhq.com.
What changed: our name, our website (grydhq.com), and the look and feel of the platform, which is now Gryd Explorer.
What stayed the same: everything about how you work with us today. No action is needed on your end.
- Your login and Explorer access, with nothing to re-enter and no downtime
- Your data, including reports, saved searches and API keys
- Your pricing, billing cycle and contract terms
- Your permissions, coverage and data refresh cadence
- Your point of contact, and if your account team ever changes, we’ll introduce you to the new team member personally
Emails sent to your existing @buildzoomdata.com contacts will still reach us.
New pricing and plans including free
Not every team needs the same amount of data or access point so we’ve launched new pricing and plans to flex with your workflow.
*Existing customers: You're able to stay on your current plan and terms. If you’d like to explore one of the new plans, reach out to your account team.
Core and Pro can be billed month to month or annually, and annual billing includes a discount. Premium is for teams that need multi-state or national coverage, delivered in bulk or through the API.
Included in the free plan: 2 free property reports downloads per month. A property report is the documented history of a single property: its address, permit history, project insights and the contractors involved.

Three ways to find what you need faster
Smart search: ask in plain English
You can now type what you are looking for in a sentence, right at the top of the search filters. There is no need to know the exact terms or pick the right filters first. Explorer reads your query and surfaces the most relevant results. Smart Search is included with the Pro plan.
Here is the example from our release notes: "electrical contractors who've worked on multi-family residential in Austin." One sentence covers the trade, the project type and the city.
If you are new to a market or a project type, start here. You can always tighten the results with filters afterward.
Advanced search filters: more precision
When you already know exactly what you want, the new filters help you get there. You can now:
- Filter permits by county
- Set a custom price range instead of choosing from presets
- Specify an exact date range
They are handy for targeted work, like pulling permits from a single county within a specific window of time.
Interactive map view: see the activity
Permits and projects now show up on a map. You can view permit clusters across regions, zoom into a neighborhood, search by address and click into any individual permit. The map sits alongside your existing table views, so you can move between the two depending on the question you are asking.
A table tells you what is there. A map shows you where it is concentrated, which is often the more useful question when you are scoping a territory or checking on activity around a specific address.
Sneak peek at what’s to come in Q4
We’re working on two projects that build on the verified data our customers already rely on: a more convenient way to connect to Gryd data, and a clearer view into the coverage behind it.
Gryd API launch
Insurance carriers, proptech and real estate tech companies, and financial services firms already use the Buildzoom API to bring verified construction intelligence into their own products and workflows. It saves them from building and maintaining a pipeline across thousands of local permit sources, and gives them jurisdiction-verified data covering 400M+ permits, 100M+ properties in the US and 6.5M+ contractors.
Gryd API is designed to make that easier to start and easier to run. Self-serve convenience is coming to the API, with self-service keys, usage tracking and a new developer hub, so you can get set up without waiting on manual provisioning and see how you’re using the data as you go. We’re also simplifying pricing, so it’s easier to understand what you’re buying.
If you’re not ready to build yet, get started in Explorer for free today to search, filter and download sample data before connecting it to your systems.
Jurisdiction Intelligence
We’ve spent years working with permit jurisdictions, and we know how differently each one publishes: how often records update, how data quality varies and how complete coverage is. Jurisdiction Intelligence puts that knowledge in your hands. Whether you use Explorer, the API or Bulk Data, and on any plan, you’ll be able to see population-weighted coverage measured against a Census-based list of national permitting authorities, compare Gryd data to independent government baselines, and check freshness and quality metrics for the jurisdictions you care about. It’s one more way to understand exactly what you’re working with.
If you’re considering how the API could fit into your workflow or want to learn more about our data coverage and availability in your market, our team is happy to talk it through.
